New Animation Initiative Announced by SBS Independent and Australian Film Commission

6 December 1999

An exciting initiative to commission distinctive work from animators working at an advanced level in Australia was announced today by SBS Independent and the Australian Film Commission, in association with Film Victoria and the FTO.

Under the title Home Movies, twelve short films for adult audiences will be fully-financed under the initiative and will screen on SBS in 2001 as three half hour programs.

In announcing the call for applications for the series, Bridget Ikin, the General Manager of SBS Independent said, "We want to build on the success of Swimming Outside the Flags and encourage the creative contribution of experienced animators working across the country. Home Movies is designed to attract highly personal material and give expression to feelings which are contradictory, untidy or sometimes overlooked."

The deadline for applications is 3rd April, 2000 and guidelines and application forms can be obtained from the Australian Film Commission.

For further information, please contact Barbara Masel at SBS Independent on 61-2 9430 3694 or Andrew Traucki at the Australian Film Commission on 61-2 9321 6455.
