- Stephen Page, Artistic Director of the Bangarra Dance Theatre, joined Indigenous film director Rachel Perkins, actor/writer/performer Leah Purcell and producer Bain Stewart in Canberra to call for cultural exemptions in a Free Trade Agreement with the United States. A special performance by the Bangarra Dance Theatre on 20 August was the highlight of an event hosted by the AFC and the Australia Council for the Arts, attended by politicians from both Houses of Parliament and from all political parties.
- The AFC made a submission to the Senate Inquiry into the Australia-US Free Trade Agreement and General Agreement on Trade in Services in May and addressed the committee on 23 July. At the same hearings director Gillian Armstrong and writer Judi McCrossin gave personal accounts of how cultural policy measures ensure Australian content on our screens, and sustain our film and television industries

- In August the Australian International Movie Convention was held on the Gold Coast. The AFC was co-sponsor of the opening night, Australia On Show, which showcased 17 new features. The AFC also organised a discussion forum 'Who's Calling the Shots - Is There Change in the Air?' and Filmmaker Trade Show, and offered travel assistance to many directors, producers and actors from the films showcased.
- Women Working in Television hosted a networking lunch on 25 July
- In July the AFC provided filmmakers with a rare opportunity to meet Michael Cowan, Joint Managing Director of leading international film production and sales company Spice Factory in Sydney and Melbourne
