Filmmakers including Nadia Tass and Ann Turner are giving emerging practitioners the benefit of their experience in the AFC/AFTRS initiative Test Drive.
Test Drive is a Melbourne-based non-residential workshop designed for successful 2005 applicants to the AFC's 'Short Shorts Production' funding strand (Strand H1). These five teams, selected to make a low-budget digital short with a budget of up to $90,000, are being given focused feedback from directing and producing mentors, and experienced script editors. They also have the opportunity to shoot and edit a scene from their film with the help of professional actors, experienced DOPs and editors.
The aim is to assist the filmmakers to realise the full potential of their project by clarifying their ideas, and inspiring confidence and boldness of vision.
The participants include Charlotte George, Chelsea Bruland and Lally Katz (Ingrid Sits Holding a Knife), Irina Goundortseva and Stuart Parkyn (Piranha), Grant Scicluna and Jannine Barnes (Fast Lane), Lucy Gouldthorpe and Andy Wilson (Kaleidoscope), and Ben West and Nicole O'Donohue (Play).
Other mentors include John Ruane, Stuart McDonald, Margot McDonald, Ann Darrouzet, Ellery Ryan, Alkinos Tsimilidos and more. The course director is Franziska Wagenfeld.
Test Drive runs 6-10 February.
