The inaugural MeetMarket, launched at this year's AIDC in Melbourne was so well received it is hoped that it will become a permanent addition to the Documentary Conference. A joint initiative of the AFC and the Australian International Documentary Conference (AIDC), the MeetMarket facilitated over 200 one-on-one meetings during the conference, involving 40 buyers and 25 selected projects.
MeetMarket ran on three afternoons of the Conference and offered 15min meetings in a dedicated room equipped with meeting tables and viewing facilities. Filmmakers were able to pitch their project and gauge the interest of both national and international buyers as well as gain their own market intelligence and make good networking contacts.
What participants had to say about the MeetMarket:
"[MeetMarket] was a very civilised and productive way to meet the buyers and I hope the AFC continues with it."
- Rosie Jones, Writer/Director A History of Walking (Headlands project)
"It really worked well for us, being at an early stage of development, we can see a number of ways to approach the project now, having 'spoken to the marketplace' as it were."
- Maryella Hatfield, Producer/Director/Writer The Future Makers
"MeetMarket was extremely valuable for us, we received very positive support as well as constructive criticism. It has helped to refine our direction and clarified the market requirements."
- Gillian Norman, Producer/Director/Writer Empire Americana
"I think it was the hit of the conference. I spoke to several commissioning editors who really liked the way it worked for them. I think it helped to make the whole conference a pleasant place to be and to work."
- John Moore, Producer Black Jack Brabham
