2007 International Marketing Workshop

Twenty-four filmmakers of ten low-budget feature films developed/funded through the AFC's IndiVision and SP*RK programs took part in an International Marketing Workshop held in the Hunter Valley in July.

US sales agent Mark Horowitz, UK sales consultant Tom Strudwick and UK financier Bill Allan were joined by Australian Hopscotch distributor Sandie Don, producers Liz Watts and Vincent Sheehan, and independent consultant Kim Lewis to advise on the marketing and financing of low-budget Australian feature films in the current environment.

Each evening the group was joined by additional special guest speakers who talked about recent feature film marketing experiences, the role of the critic, film festivals, new Australian financial participants and conditions, and the current role of the FFC.

When asked about her project's status after participating in the workshop, producer Jane Keneally said, "I've taken a fresh look at the way we are selling our film and ourselves as well as a fresh look at some of the financing options available. My director and I came out of the experience feeling both realistic and energised about the prospects that our film has."

Producer Jamie Hilton said, "The sessions on financing were a personal highlight. I will be able to apply the skills and knowledge learnt to all of my upcoming projects."
